Caldecott, Randolph
(22 mar. 1846, Chester, Cheshire, Inglaterra–12 feb. 1886, St. Augustine, Fla., EE.UU.).

Artista gráfico y acuarelista británico. Mientras trabajaba como empleado bancario, comenzó a dibujar para periódicos como el London Society, y después de mudarse a Londres, para Punch y Graphic. Desarrolló un delicado estilo satírico y tuvo éxito con sus ilustraciones para los libros de Washington Irving The Sketch Book (1875) y Bracebridge Hall (1876). Caldecott es más conocido como ilustrador de libros infantiles, entre ellos John Gilpin (1878) de William Cowper y Elegy on a Mad Dog (1879) de Oliver Goldsmith. Siempre fue frágil de salud. Murió a los 39 años de edad en Florida, donde se había mudado para mejorar su siempre débil estado de salud. Desde 1938 se otorga anualmente la Medalla Caldecott, al ilustrador estadounidense más distinguido de libros ilustrados infantiles.
